Born on March 25, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Guy Everitt and Mamie Bernice (Adams) Soxman, JoAnn was raised in KCMO, attended Blenheim Elementary and graduated from Southeast High School. She attended Junior College before transferring to Baker University, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. As a cheerleader, she cheered on Wes as he played football, and they served as Homecoming King and Queen, further refining their role as a couple. JoAnn graduated in 1952 with a degree in Home Economics.
JoAnn was a P.E.O. member, consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics for 10 years, a member of D.A.R. as well the 40 Years Ago Club. She enjoyed swimming, tennis, crafts, traveling, and talking and being with people. JoAnn's warm character was derived from her Christian faith that remained a pillar throughout her entire life. Maybe it will be her beautiful and contagious smile that will be most remembered, but the roots of that smile were embedded in nothing but sincere faith.
