Jerry was born October 9, 1949, in Rockdale, Texas to Julieus Ray and Mary Lee (Parker) Whiteley. He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Marie Reed on March 21, 1969. They had their daughters Heather Jaye on November 18, 1973, and Hannah Raye on December 23, 1982. Their time together can best be described as a true hippie and cowboy love story. Janice peacefully passed on December 30, 2001, from lung cancer, but Jerry made sure her memory lived on for the many years to come. On October 19, 2004, he married Patricia Flynn and they happily resided in Houston, Texas until his death.
Jerry was an amazing man. A loving husband that always put his wife first and made taking care of them his top priority during their time together. A true girl dad, from driving them around as kids to being the shoulder to cry on through anything life threw at them, he was always there to listen and of course, give his two cents. A supportive pawpaw, from sports to horses, he always wanted his grandkids to dream big and lived vicariously through their aspirations and passions. The best of friends, who valued quality time and made sure the people in his life knew how much they were loved. He loved music – always singing and dancing through life with his girls, golf – a good round could fix anything, long drives with his wife Patty that he referred to as “board meetings,” horses – especially the ones that belonged to his granddaughter Lexi, baseball and football games – cheering on his favorite boys, watching old western movies and spending lazy days in the recliners with Patty and their dog Abby.
Jerry was a man of many trades, from his various welding jobs to managing businesses like the family flower shop, Whiteley the Florist, Jerry always prioritized taking care of his family. Over the years that meant moving wherever the best job took them, from Athens to Irving to Rockdale to Sherman and finally to Katy, Jerry’s work journey took him all over the state of Texas, making great friends along the way. In the end, Jerry was a salesman through and through, he worked as a Regional Sales Manager for Kobelco Welding for over 25 years. His passion for his career was second to none and from that career friendships were born because to him sales meant building relationships that would last a lifetime.
Jerry is preceded in death by his dad Julieus Ray Whiteley, mom Mary Lee Whiteley, brother JR Whiteley and wife Janice Whiteley. Jerry is survived by his wife Patricia (Flynn) Whiteley, daughters Heather Jaye Hernandez and Hannah Raye Scheu, son in laws Art Hernandez and Bryan Scheu, granddaughters Lexi Hernandez and Lily Huynh, grandsons Joshua “Rocket” Hernandez, Braden “Flash” Hernandez, Carson “Slugger” Scheu and Colton Scheu.
