On April 28, 1957, Hilda married Alfred Flores, in Houston, Texas. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership filled with travel and adventure that lasted nearly seven decades. During Alfred’s service in the United States Air Force, they built their family while living in California, Louisiana, Kansas, Ohio, and Corpus Christi before eventually settling in Houston in 1975.
Hilda earned her GED from Pasadena High School and went on to work for Houston Lighting and Power for 13 years.
Together Hilda and Alfred raised five children—Victor, Leo, Anna, Carmen, and Linda—creating a home filled with laughter, music, good food, and the warmth of family.
Hilda found joy in life’s simple and beautiful moments—reading a good book, practicing the delicate art of Brazilian embroidery, taking walks, cooking for those she loved, and dancing with Alfred.
To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Hilda was Grandma, and she loved them dearly. Her gentle spirit, kindness, wisdom, and warm smile made everyone feel welcomed and loved. She had a way of making ordinary moments feel special simply by being present.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Leopoldo and Josefina Rodriguez, and her sister, Guadalupe Switzer.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Alfred Flores; her brother, Abelardo Rodriguez; and her children: Victor Flores and wife Nancy (Harrison) Flores; Leo Flores and wife Janet (Gladden) Flores; Anna Pace and husband Allan Pace; Carmen Jones and husband Steve Jones; and Linda Flores and husband Michael Bell.
She was a loving grandmother to ten grandchildren—Elisa Flores, Gabriel Flores, Corinne Boone, Holly Flores-Berens, Sara Bood, Henry Jones, Megan Flores, John Michael Bell, Julie Flores, and Carmen Elena Bell—and a great-grandmother to Lucia Suarez, Diego Suarez, Eleanor “Nora” Boone, Evelyn Jones, Liam Bood, Ivy Berens, and Calvin Bood.
Hilda will always be remembered for her sweetness, her beautiful smile, and her joyful laugh. Her love lives on in the family she nurtured and the memories she leaves behind. Though she is no longer with us, the example she set will continue to guide and inspire those who loved her.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
