Cheryl Renay Henderson was born on February 20, 1949 to Harold and Ruley Mae Henderson. She was the youngest of four children and was adored by everyone. Due to her small stature as a child she was affectionately given the nickname “Cheryl Bug” by her father.
Cheryl loved books but her favorite, by far, was the Bible. Even at a young age Cheryl knew Jesus and was very sensitive to the Lord. Beginning in her childhood, she would write notes in her Bible about the special things God would say to her in His word. She always had a passion for arts, crafts and creating things for others. As a child (and into adulthood) she saw a treasure in almost everything.
After graduating from John H. Reagen High School, she met Billy Garton. They married in 1966 and built a loving family and life together for over 40 years. In 2020, she met and married Fred Reid and they enjoyed 5 full years together.
She worked as a bookkeeper early in her career and later as an administrative assistant for the Leslie Corporation. Throughout her life she displayed a genuine love for God, her family, her community and her friends. Cheryl was incredibly generous. Whether it was a charitable organization, her church or a friend or family member in need, she consistently gave of herself to bless others.
She loved her family deeply and often showed it through the thoughtful, very personal gifts she would give. She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by many family members whom she loved dearly: her husband, Fred Reid, daughters Julie Phalen and husband, Chris, Leslie Pollard and husband, Robby, and six grandchildren: Cullen and Megan Phalen and Luke, Noah, Adam and Elliana Pollard. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and friends that she loved with all of her heart.
