December 19,1934–July 23, 2023
Cullen Boudreaux, longtime resident of Houma, Louisiana, died peacefully on Sunday, July 23 at age 88. Raceland was his childhood home before he attended St. Ben’s Seminary in Covington and then joined the U.S. Army. It was in Beppu, Japan, while serving in the Signal Corps that he met and married Mioko (Mary) Uruma. Cullen and Mary settled in St. Bernadette Parish in Houma where he worked as an accountant at Patterson Rental Tools and then Massco Co. He was known in town for his service to the church and to the charity-based pharmacy of St. Vincent de Paul. Through the years, Cullen found fulfillment cooking gumbo for large groups at St. Bernadette, at times up to 200 people, and for family and friends at his home on Funderburk Avenue. His backyard was the site for many a crawfish boil and fish fry, and it was his tireless enthusiasm for cooking Cajun meals that brought people together. Like his mother before him, energy and hard work at doing things on his own kept him healthy and vigorous most of his life. His children will remember him as a die-hard New Orleans Saints fan, and a constant supporter of LSU football as well. They will remember his early love of fishing and later love of golf, his interest in science and science fiction, and his pride in tending to his vegetable garden. And they will remember his devotion to their beautiful mom, Mary, through her later years of illness until her death six years ago.
Cullen is preceded in death by his wife Mary, his mother, Inez Boudreaux, and his father, Dennis Boudreaux, Sr., his siblings, Velma, Lenora, Lovell, and D.J., and his grandson Stephen Clayton. He leaves behind his brothers, Dale, Herbert, and Ferrel, and his sister Wanda, his four children, Pat, Mike, Bonnie, and Amy, his nine grandchildren, and his eight great-grandchildren.
