After a difficult battle with cancer, Darcy Ann Ziegler passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2022.
Darcy was born on July 12th, 1961 in Huntingdon, PA to James Joseph Luther and Mary Eleanor Luther (Houck).
She attended Tussey Mountain High School, where she participated in both athletics and cheerleading. She was also elected as Class President in her senior year. Following high school, Darcy attained a degree in Business from Penn State University.
After graduation, Darcy worked at North American Communications, where she received several promotions and eventually managed all data entry, shipping and receiving, and warehousing operations. It was at this job where she met her future husband, Andrew Ziegler. The two of them fell in love, marrying soon after and conceiving a son, Michael Ziegler. They later relocated to the Houston, Texas area, and Darcy made the decision to become a stay-at-home mom to focus on raising her child.
Darcy volunteered extensively at Katy Independent School District and Michael’s youth sports teams. Darcy acted as Coordinator for the Hayes Hoedown, Cinco Ranch Project Grad, Krause Center for Disadvantaged Youth, and Cinco Ranch School Store, where she managed 45 volunteers. She was much beloved by the students, who often referred to her affectionately as “Mrs. Z”. She was recognized twice as Volunteer of the Year, and continued to volunteer for the community and donate to charities after her son’s graduation.
Darcy was frank and kind-spirited, and could be a bit ornery at times. She claimed that a “Damn Yankee” such as herself never quite got the hang of being a “southern belle”. Despite this - or perhaps because of this - her no-nonsense attitude endeared her to many. She was never lacking in friends and didn’t know a stranger, striking up conversation with anyone who would listen.
When Darcy was diagnosed with cancer in 2019, she approached it the same as she did the rest of her life: head on. She came very close to beating it, though eventually, it got the better of her.
On the morning of October 3rd, 2022, Darcy’s long battle with cancer came to an end. Her father passed away on the same day, 29 years prior. Darcy had always been very close with her father, and her family believes the timing of her death was no coincidence.
Darcy was the youngest of five children, and is survived by her sister Diane Luther, her brother Gary Luther, her husband Andrew Ziegler, and her son Michael Ziegler.
A celebration of life for Darcy will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, Texas 77494.
