Ernestine Sargent Bass

Ernestine was born November 28, 1938 in Cushing, Oklahoma to Ernest and Mary (Cowan) Sargent. Ernestine worked at a drug store while she attended Yale High School, where she lettered on the female basketball team, until her graduation in 1957.She would then go on to work at the Oklahoma Child Welfare Department during which she was an undergraduate at Oklahoma State University. In 1958 she married and would move to Houston, TX in 1960 where Ernestine would continue her undergraduate studies at University of Houston. She would go on to graduate from the School of Finance at Baylor University and Santa Clara University.

From 1960 to 1976 she worked for Baroid drilling until 1976. From 1976 to 1981 she would manage the Walden Bookstore in Valley View Mall until 1981. She would then work for Dresser Industries from 1982 to 1998 where she was employed as a Treasury and Credit Analyst. She would go to become employed as a Senior Human Resources Coordinator with The Associates in 1999 until 2000 when she retired.

In the early 2000’s Ernestine moved to Katy Texas to be closer to her family. Her family was thankful for the move as they enjoyed her company very, very much. She was very fond of her nieces and nephews and their children.

Ernestine enjoyed many hobbies including Art, Gardening, Reading and Ancestry research.

Ernestine is preceded in death by her father Ernest Sargent, mother Mary (Cowan) Sargent and sisters Mary Ellen and Donna Jo.

She is survived by her brother Robert Sargent of Duncan, Oklahoma and her son Scott E. Bass of Katy, TX and his wife Carolyn (Pennington) Bass, Grandson Stephen Bass, granddaughters; Sarah Emri Bass and Kimberly Danielle DeLaFosse and her husband David Taylor. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Conner and Tessa DeLaFosse and many other nieces, nephews and cousins that she was extremely fond of.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, TX on Friday, March 1st, 2019 at 10:00 am.
