Fern Isabelle (Strecker) Parmenter was born in Russell, Kansas, to Jacob and Anna Strecker. Following her high school graduation in 1944, she obtained an emergency teaching certificate and taught one year in a rural school. In 1945, she moved with her parents to Salina, Kansas, and started working as a bookkeeper at Electric Fixture and Supply. This is where she met Harry Parmenter, when he returned from service in WW II, and they were married in 1947. Fern and Harry moved to Topeka, Kansas, in 1961. Fern was a full-time mom and grandma, but was also an active volunteer at schools, churches, and social service agencies. She was a beautiful seamstress and loved to quilt and crochet. In 2000, Fern and Harry moved to Katy, Texas, and for the last 2 ½ years, Fern has been living with Tim and Margaret and their children.
Fern was preceded in death by Harry, who passed away in 2004 and daughter, Pamela, in 1954. She is survived by her daughter, Bev Tomkiel and husband, Phil; granddaughter, Andrea and great grandsons, Connor and Sebastian of Aiken, South Carolina; son, Tim and wife, Margaret and grandchildren Jack, Bridget, Luke, Mark, Matthew and Benjamin, of Katy, Texas.
A funeral service will occur Monday, March 13, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at Living Word Lutheran Church, 3700 S. Mason Road, Katy, TX 77450, where Fern was a beloved member. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Living Word Lutheran Church.
