April 30, 1933 – November 26, 2013
Helen Marie Dickey was born on April 30, 1933 to John and Bonnie Dickey in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of six children and preceded in death by her brothers John, Samuel, Frank, and sisters Lorraine and Ella Jean. She was on the Pep Squad in High School and a proud member of the National Honor Society. At the young age of 18, after graduating from high school, she decided to venture out on her own from the small rural town of Muskogee to the big city of Washington D.C., halfway across the country. She has always been an independent spirit. It was in Washington D.C. that she met her future husband and proud U.S. Marine, Brice James (Jim) Dean. They were married in Washington D.C. when she was 19 years of age.
Helen and Jim had three children – Gregory Eugene, Timothy James, and Anne Marie. They moved all over the country until making the Greater Houston area their final home in 1970. Brice James Dean went to be with the Lord on September 3, 1985. Helen has six grandchildren – Jason Zachery Brice Dean born to Greg and Rebecca Dean; Sean Michael Spits, Lauren Elyse Black (married to Joshua Black), Rachel Marie Spits, Mark Christian Spits, and Eric Matthew Spits born to Steve and Anne Spits. Helen was most proud of her children and grandchildren. They were everything to her and she loved them dearly.
Helen worked for most of her life as an Executive Secretary. She took the exam to become a Certified Professional Secretary in the early 80’s, a difficult yet rewarding accomplishment. She took some college courses in her adulthood to further her education. She was not seeking a degree, but simply wanting to learn. She never stopped seeking knowledge.
Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Those who had the pleasure of knowing her would attest to her kind and giving heart and her unconditional love. She always put others before herself. She loved the Lord with all of her heart, soul, and mind and anyone who met her would see that. She faithfully gave to her church, Christian radio, and Christian charities. She diligently read her bible and was a prayer warrior.
