I loved him for day one and our love when we were at a training class for The Houston Post.
After 35 years of marriage with ups and downs we are still in love.

Papa was the best grandpa I could've ever asked for. He was the funniest, most lively person I've ever met. Going over to Papa and Granny's house was the ultimate vacation.  From making me "coffee", to swimming in the spa, to riding scooters around the park, I always had a blast. I'll never forget the memories we made. The light Papa always brought into every room will be missed but I will carry it around with me forever. Until I see you again. Love, Rachael

James and Melissa welcomed me into the family with open arms.
I will never forget the moment that Tracie and I told them that they were about to be grandparents for the second time.   We really appreciate the help they gave us over the years with our kids. We will miss him

Because I was 6 1/2 years older than James I considered him to be “my” baby. I was his babysitter for years since our parents worked long hours at the Drugstore. We had many interesting experiences raising each other and some of the lessons learned were passed down such as “how to give your sister a hard time”. We both survived and remained close, talking frequently on the phone and always ending with “I Love You.”  We never had a short conversation. That guy could really talk. We mostly laughed and laughed. I will miss those times. I love you Bro. Your sister, Nellwyn

My Papa was the funniest, coolest, and most caring grandfather you could ever ask for. He taught me a lot of important things in life, like how to chop wood, how to crack jokes and make fun of my sister, and that loud cars were cool. Some of the best memories of my childhood were visiting Papa & Granny at the park, it was always like a summer camp, but way better. Papa meant a lot to me, and his fun-loving, silly, and always-caring spirit will be with me forever. I always admired how he could make everyone in the room smile. If I can ever do that half as many times as he did, I’ll consider myself accomplished.

My husband Randy and I met James and Melissa workamping in Oklahoma. We became good friends and had a lot of fun. We'd hang out after work,  play cards, sharing meals and have a drink. Randy and James had so much fun giving each other a hard time. He was always quick with a smart aleck comeback but a very caring person. I will miss him.

Melissa and family, I am so sorry for your loss of this great man.  I will forever remember our road trip to Dallas and seeing the Jesus statue in Huntsville lit up in the night.  I'm sure Lin welcomed James at the pearly gates with a big bear hug.  ((HUGS))
