

James was born on January 2, 1945 in Electra, Texas to James and Irmarea Murphy.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother and his sister, Rosemary Woods.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Melissa Murphy, and by son, Trey and his wife, Janice; daughter, Tracie, and her husband, Robert; daughter, Stacie, and her husband, Chuck; son, James Battlestin and his wife, Joyce; and son, Paul Battlestin, and his wife, Sonya.
He is survived by his sister Nellwyn Henry.
He is survived by his grandchildren: Bailey and her husband, Chris; Jimmy and his wife, Jassmyn; Alex, Rachael and Ryan; Courtney and husband, Jeremy; Kelsey; Dylan, Tommy, Jessica, Savana, Jamison, Lauren; Kimberlee and her husband, Dylan; Alyson.
He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Izabella and Hendricx; and Averie.
James started his career at the Houston Post as an independent distributor for 30 years. The post closed their doors on April 18, 1999 at which time he went to work for the Houston Chronicle for another 10 years.
He then opened his own embroidery shop in Katy, Texas in 1999. They had some interesting customers over the years: the FBI, Disney and the Beatles.
In his retirement years he and Melissa bought an RV and hit the road to travel the US. They loved the RV life and meeting lots of friends wherever they went.
He was deeply loved and will be missed daily by his loved ones and friends.
A service for Mr. Murphy will be held on Sunday the 24th at 2:00PM at Central baptist Church 2855 Greenhouse Road Houston, TX 77084
