John is survived by his son, Christopher, and his husband, Nix, and his son, Marly. Charlotte Sullivan, Christopher's mother, survives also. John is also survived by his wife, Pamla Jo Glenn, her daughter, Kara, grandson Blayke and wife, Katie, and great-grandson, Jack. John's siblings, Claire Hamilton and Carol Rustad, preceded him in death, as well as his parents. His sisters, Martha Murphree, Kay Graham, and Jean Senn survive him, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
John's family lived in Santa Rosa, Texas, until they moved to Pottsville, Arkansas in 1954. After high school, John graduated from Arkansas Tech with a degree in geology. He taught in public schools in Arkansas and Missouri before going on to complete a masters degree in geology at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Within a week of graduation, John was hired by Phillips Petroleum in their international offices in London, Singapore (where son Christopher was born), Jakarta, and Manilla. He returned to Houston after seven years of international work to work domestically for Sohio Oil and Forest Oil.
In 1984, while working in Houston, he met PJ. They married in 1986 and were married for 37 years. After moving to Denver with Forest Oil, John was asked to join the first joint oil and gas venture between Russia and the United States in Siberia, which was chronicled in the movie "The Prize". When John moved to Siberia, they changed their residence to Katy, Texas. From Siberia, he and PJ began working on a project in Kazakstan until the project was discontinued and they returned to their Katy home. Back home in Katy, John established Teal Energy USA, Inc., an oil and gas prospect company. John has made many friends from all over the world and is highly respected for his geology knowledge.
A visitation for John will be held Friday, November 10, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd, KATY, TX 77494, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
