Kenneth Eugene Bewley, 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. He was born on October 7, 1929, in Three Sands, Oklahoma to Walter and Ednus (Gumm) Bewley. Ken graduated from Tonkawa High School in 1947 and attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma before serving our country in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1953. While working at Continental Oil Company on a seismic crew in 1954, he met and married the love of his life, Wanda Faye Gindlesberger. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary before Wanda passed away in 2018.
Ken received his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Oklahoma in 1956. He worked as a geologist for most of his life and was Executive Vice President of Exploration for Seneca Oil Company in Oklahoma City and a partner at T.K. Energy. He was also an independent hydrogeologist and did contract work for Sinclair Oil Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Ken and Wanda were active members of Southern Hills Christian Church in Edmond, Oklahoma for over 40 years where he served as a deacon and elder.
He and Wanda loved to play golf and were members of Twin Hills Golf and Country Club for more than 25 years. He was one of the directors of the Mid-Continent Oilman’s Golf Tournament for 30 years and he made two holes in one. They also loved watching sports (especially O.U. football), playing bridge, and travelling. Ken attended three Super Bowl games, crossed the Arctic Circle, stood in the Andes Mountains, and experienced an earthquake in Alaska, a hurricane in New Orleans, and tornadoes in Oklahoma.
Ken and Wanda moved to Katy, Texas in 2015. In his later years, Ken took guitar lessons and having been an avid reader for most of his life, he decided to write and publish his first novel, Gus, at the age of 93. He wrote several Western short stories and enjoyed reading them twice a month to his friends and family at the community where he lived. He also looked forward to Saturday morning breakfast with his son-in-law Allen.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Wanda, his sister Marilyn and her husband Tommy Noles. He is survived by his son, Scott Bewley, of Abilene, Texas, Scott’s two children Jessica and Ryan (Melissa), and Ryan’s children, Olivia and Ryan Christopher. He is also survived by his daughter Stacy Grubb (Allen) of Katy, Texas and their children Kelsey Schuller (Kal) and their children Claire and Crew; Conner and his children Charlotte and Mara; Kyle (Shelby) and their children Ella and Noah; and Courtney. Also, surviving is his brother Jack (Annette), and brother Don (Dianna), and sister-in-law Marva Anderson.
Those of us who knew him were blessed beyond measure to have him in our lives, and we find comfort knowing that he is with those who love him and our Lord and Savior who loved him first and forevermore. We look forward to the day when we will be reunited with him in Heaven.
There will be a small family gathering to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity.
