

Born and raised in Council Grove, Kansas, Paul’s journey took him to Kansas State University, where he earned a BS in Chemical Engineering. He went on to have a fulfilling career as a Chemical Engineer, working for Calgon and later Tetra. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Paul had a deep love for the arts of cooking and gardening, becoming a skilled chef and Master Gardener. His passion for food was legendary, with his gourmet meals and dinner parties—especially his famed "Paul's Perfect Pizza"—becoming treasured traditions among family and friends.
A proud member of the Knights of the Vines and an avid reader, Paul also took great pleasure in being part of a book club. His charm, humor, and zest for life made him a joy to be around, and he could always be counted on to bring warmth and light to any gathering.
Paul was married to Ada Fay Delaney Wood on March 21, 1987. Their love for one another was evident to all who knew them. Paul cherished Ada Fay deeply and was a devoted husband. He was also a loving stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and his family will always remember his affection and care. He was known as "Grand-daddy,""G-daddy," and "Great" by his grandchildren, who adored him.
In his later years, Paul embraced retirement with enthusiasm, dedicating his time to volunteer work. He served as the manager of Magnolia Ridge Country Club in Liberty and was an active member of the board at the Liberty Library. His dedication extended to the First United Methodist Church of Liberty, where he served on numerous boards, further demonstrating his commitment to his community.
A veteran of the Air Force and Air Force Reserve, Paul achieved the rank of Captain, proudly serving his country.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Elsie Schmidt, and his first wife, Donna.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ada Fay Schmidt; his stepson Tillman Deen Wood, Jr. (wife: Holly); his stepson Regan D. Wood (wife: Kerry); his stepdaughter Ada Fay Young (husband: Peter); his grandchildren Trevor Wood, Stephanie Noonan (husband: Eric), Kaitlin Neira (husband: Walter), Alexandra Wood, Tillman Deen Wood III, and Patrick Young (wife: Hudson); and his great-grandchildren Matilda Noonan, Ada Noonan, and Aurora Wood.
Paul will be remembered as a true gentleman, a kind soul, and a loving family member. His presence in the lives of those who knew him will be sorely missed, and his memory will live
on in the hearts of his loved ones forever.
A visitation will be held at Katy Funeral Home, located at 23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, TX, 77494, United States. The visitation is scheduled for July 2, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
