

KATY, Texas—Richard John Davenport, 75, passed away here on July 8, after a brief illness. Born and raised in Teaneck, N.J., Rich and his wife, Patricia “Pat” (Timpanaro) moved to Houston in 2000 due to Pat’s job relocation. Rich retired at that time. He attended Lafayette College, in Easton, Pa. and graduated from N.J.’s Fairleigh Dickinson University with a Bachelor Degree of Science in Chemistry. Rich specialized as an Analytical Chemist working with paint, metals and aerospace metal coatings. He also was an avid furniture builder and craftsmen in addition to being a great handyman.
Rich was devoted to his home, cooking and caring for his wife. He was a great cook, a trait that he inherited from his grandfather who was a chef at a Hungarian-American restaurant on Wall Street in New York City. In addition to his love of working in the kitchen, he also liked to fish, as a 10-year old boy up growing up in Lake George, located at the southeastern base of the Adirondack Mountains in the northeastern portion of New York State.
In 1973, he got his first speedboat, which was a dream come true for him. Pat and Rich spend many summers at Lake George with the Carney Family. Rich was also a model maker of wooden planes and sailing ships.
He was pre-deceased by his mother, Mary Huszar Davenport “Mae.” Rich is survived by Patricia, his wife of 48 years, his son Rick Davenport Greenleaf, as well as his special nephews, Nicholas D’Alessandro, George D’Alessandro and Michael D’Alessandro, who pre-deceased him.
