

Arthur Bottomley, Jr. 84, a longtime resident of Marlborough, NH died Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Bentley Commons, Water Street, Keene, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.
He was born in Salem, NH on December 23, 1930, the son of Ruth G. (Kohler) and Arthur Bottomley, Sr.
Mr. Bottomley served in the United States Navy as a Seabee, Builder 3rd Class during the Korean War.
Following his military obligations, he worked for many years as a skilled carpenter and salesman. He, along with his first wife, Rowena (Messinger) Bottomley, owned and operated the Monadnock Nursing Home on Main Street in Keene for over 20 years. He wore many hats at the Nursing Home as an Administrator, LPN, Food Service Supervisor and Facilities Manager. He earned a degree as a licensed practical nurse at the Thompson School of Nursing in Brattleboro, Vermont.
A long time Masonic member he was a 32nd Degree Mason raised in the Lodge of the Temple No. 88 and a member of the Jerusalem Lodge No. 104 and the Valley of Keene Scottish Rite. Mr. Bottomley enjoyed gardening, canning, baking pies, fishing, travelling and looking after the abundant wildlife at his home in Marlborough and beloved cottage in Acton, Maine.
He is survived by his children, Dean A. Bottomley and his wife, Wilma-Anne, of Imperial Beach, CA, Todd E. Bottomley and his wife, Kathryn, of Chesterfield, NH, Neal E. Bottomley and his wife, Deborah of Manahawkin, NJ, Sarah-Ann Beal and her husband, Michael, of San Antonio, TX; his grandchildren, Michael Pride, Dustin Bottomley, Dane-Kenneth Bottomley, Scott Bottomley and his wife, Amy, Daniel Bottomley, Amy Lynn Bottomley, Sheridan Beal, Payton Beal, Madison Beal and Gracelyn Beal; three great-grandchildren, Mikayla Pride, Alexander Pride, Tia Pride; a sister, Carolyn Munroe and her husband, Richard, of Marlborough; a niece, Nancy Munroe; and a nephew, Douglas Munroe; his 2nd wife Susan (Bottomley) Perrigo and his longtime friend, Jane Silver. He was predeceased by his first wife of 24 years, Rowena (Messinger) Bottomley.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 17th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Federated Church of Marlborough, 16 Pleasant Street, Marlborough. Burial will be private. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene.
