Born to Beatrice (Gray) and Arthur Jennison of Walpole, NH on February 20,1940, she spent her childhood raising and training the bloodhounds her father used in his role as Sheriff of Cheshire County. She was a graduate of Keene High School, UNH (B.A., Art History) and Keene State (Teachers) College (M. Ed) - teaching elementary school in Sullivan, Gilsum, and Chesterfield, NH, before becoming owner/manager of the Keene Answering Service, which she ran out of her West Keene home for 16 years.
She married William Reed Scruton of Hillsborough, NH, on May 12, 1963 - raising two daughters, Kristen MacFarlane of Phillipston, MA, and Kathleen Brown of Holden, MA. She is also survived by her grandchildren William Brown and Ethan Brown, her sister Kathryn Forcier of Marlborough, NH, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, and her sisters Priscilla Frink and Barbara Johnson.
A lifelong member of the United Church of Christ in Keene, she loved singing in the choir, volunteering, collecting antiques, 4-H, investing, and gardening. Her favorite activities also included spending time with the many animals she rescued over her lifetime and the horses she kept on her small farm in West Keene. Always an active person, when she was in her fifties, she took up running and even ran Keene’s “Four on the Fourth” road race. An inspiration to her daughters and family, she will be remembered fondly by many for her quiet confidence, tenacity, and ready smile.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Applewood Rehabilitation Center in Winchester, NH, for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Road, Swanzey, NH 03446.
A graveside service will be held later this summer in Walpole, NH.
