
He was born in Keene June 12, 1941, the son of Francis B. and Gratia A. (Hutchinson) Pitcher and had resided in the Swanzey for his entire life. He graduated from Keene High School in 1961.
Mr. Pitcher worked for Page Homestead Farm in his youth and after High School he enlisted in the US Air Force. He served in the Cam Ram Bay area of Vietnam as an Administration Specialist, and held the rank of Airman First Class.
After his Honorable Discharge, Mr. Pitcher worked locally for A. E. Martell for several years, then for Kingsbury Machine Tool Corp for many years until his retirement in 2000. He was on the Town of Swanzey Recreation Committee in the early 1980’s and he worked as Water Commissioner for the North Swanzey Water and Fire Precinct from 2003 until 2011. He also worked for many years as grounds and stage crew for “The Old Homestead”. He collected Glass Milk Bottles from dairy farms from all over, enjoyed antique cars especially his Model A, attended car and old engine shows and one of his favorite pastimes was meeting up with friends at many of the local restaurants.
He is survived by his sister: Jane Parent and her husband Ronald Sr. of Swanzey; a niece: Jessica Page and her husband Thane of Swanzey and their 5 children: Nathaniel, Chloe, Liam and Lily, with one more expected in August; his nephew: Ronald Parent, Jr. and his wife Stacy of Boynton Beach, FL., and their daughter Sienna; an Aunt: Frances Pitcher of Rutland, VT; three cousins Pamela Jonah of Rutland, VT, Joan Hildreth and her husband Steve of Hampstead, NC and Pat Laskowski and her husband Bill of Le Canto, FL. He also leaves behind many close and caring friends.
Services will be held Monday morning at 11:00 am at the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, Route 32, Swanzey, NH. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro St, Keene, NH. Family and friends are invited. Burial will take place at the family lot in the Mt View Cemetery in Swanzey following the service.
In Lieu of Flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Gert’s Pantry, in Mr. Pitcher’s name, to The Community Church of W. Swanzey, (with Gert’s Pantry in the Memo Area), 7 Homestead Ave, Swanzey, NH 03469 or to the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, PO Box 10041, Swanzey, NH 03446 in memory of Fred Pitcher.
