

He was born, November 7, 1949, in Staten Island, New York, the son of Erling Fred and Florence Benson. After graduating from high school in 1967, he went on to serve our Nation as a member of the United States Marine Corps.
For many years he worked for Continental Cable Company in Hinsdale where he enjoyed getting to know many of the people that he worked with. He was a member of the VFW in Hinsdale, NH. Prior to moving to the Monadnock Region he worked for the Postal Service in Manhattan, New York.
He was a very devoted and hardworking man who was devoted to the care and upbringing of his family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was a very loving “Grumpy” He enjoyed being close to his home and doing things in the outdoors: especially working in his garden growing tomatoes and watching the birds in his yard. He shared a very special bond with his long-time pet that he had since 1993, his parrot, Larry-Bird.
He enjoyed television: cooking shows, boxing, comedies and westerns were among his favorites. He loved Motown music and hated Kale!
He is survived by his daughter: Dawn Benson and her fiancée, Maureen Mahoney of Keene, NH, two sons: Timothy Benson and his wife Erika and Gregg Zavorotny and his wife Charissa, both of Asheulot, NH. Grandchildren: Ricco Clark, Cody Clark, Joy Clark, Alex Burgmeier, Summer Burgmeier, Dude Durkee, and Vera Benson, five great-grandchildren, his brother: Bobby Benson and his wife JoAnn and his sister: Judy Keshecki and her husband Kenny both of New York, his sister-in-law: Debbie Benson of Tennessee and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is also survived by the mother of his children: Sandra Zavorotny. He is predeceased by his brother: Jay Benson.
There will be no public calling hours. Services for Mr. Benson will be held at a later date.
