Her parents, Howard M. and Kathryn B. (Gass) Windhorst, welcomed their daughter into the world on May 19, 1933, in Pittsburg, PA. She grew up in Eastern Ohio. She has been a resident of Marlow since 1978.
Mrs. Plotts took great pride in her role as a homemaker and raising her family. In addition to raising her own children, Geraldine helped raise many of her grandchildren, exchange students, as well as taken in impoverished children from her community.
She also helped her husband William with his business, The W.B. Plotts Company, Inc.
A spirit for adventure and an attitude of “if she wanted to do something, she set her mind to it, she made sure that it got accomplished” Geraldine raised sheep to spin her own wool to make sweaters, built her own sugar house on the property so she could make maple syrup, dabbled in photography making her own darkroom, and received her pilots license so she could fly small planes with her husband. Basically, she got what she wanted when she wanted it, showing a strong determination and mind-set.
She had a love for animals, especially horses, and was a leader in the 4-H horse programs for many years. During this time, she was a president of the NH Equine Humane, a humane organization for rescuing abused and neglected horses. She loved her chickens and had Banties, and her beloved dog Mitzi, up until the very end.
She was active in the Marlow Methodist Church, a member of the Marlow Planning Board, a member of the Marlow Historical Society, and President of the Marlow Women’s Fellowship. She loved to travel and was able to travel to the Holy Land, Switzerland, Germany, and other European Countries.
She will be greatly missed by many, especially her children, Randall Jay and his partner Jack Der, of Cathedral City, CA, Kimberly James of Moore, OK, Beth Willey and her husband Thomas, of Marlow; her grandchildren, Anna Shanks, Sarah Rogers and her husband, Christopher, Myles Bergin, twins Skylar and Mitchell Willey; her great-grandchildren, Madalyn Rogers, Emily Williams, Makenzie Shanks, Ashlynn Shanks; a brother, Ronald Windhorst and his wife Barbara, of Dennysville, ME, and a nephew, Colin Windhorst of Dennysville. Her husband of 67 years, William B. Plotts died May 25, 2021. A brother Howard Windhorst predeceased her.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 2:00pm in the Marlow United Methodist Church, 11 Church Street, Marlow, NH. Burial will follow in the Village Cemetery, Marlow.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made in Mrs. Plotts memory to St. Jude Children’ Research Hospital (stjude.org), 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
