Jack Edward Boufford, 66, of Keene, NH, passed away peacefully at home on April 23, 2025, after a courageous battle of declining health. Born in Keene to the late Edward “Pete” and Freda (Deyo) Boufford, Jack lived a life full of passion, laughter, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved.
A proud member of Keene High School’s Class of 1977, Jack was a football player (#78) and active in DeMolay, forming lifelong friendships he cherished through spirited high school reunions. Known as the class joker in his younger years, his infectious laugh and quick wit stayed with him always. His playful phone pranks when making a call and responding “What do you want?” and his signature “Get a job!” were delivered with a grin that could light up a room.
Jack was a dedicated worker at T-Bird on West Street in Keene for many years. Jack made many friends while working at T-bird, not only with his co-workers, but his regular customers who he always treated like family. Known for his heartfelt connections, Jack always made time to chat with the children of his customers, bringing smiles to their faces. Those who knew him best were greeted with his signature big hugs as they stepped out of their cars, a testament to his genuine affection.
A collector at heart, he treasured his Zippo lighters and sports trading cards, each item a story of his passions. He was a diehard New England sports fan, especially devoted to the Patriots, cheering them on as a season ticket holder alongside his best friend, Wayne. Jack’s love for NASCAR ran deep, with Dale Earnhardt as his hero on the track.
An avid candlepin bowler, Jack competed in leagues across New Hampshire and Massachusetts, bringing his competitive spirit and camaraderie to every match. He found joy in the outdoors - gardening, mowing the lawn on his riding mower, fishing, and duck hunting - where he felt most at peace. A caretaker by nature, Jack lovingly supported his parents and extended a helping hand to anyone in need, Jack was always there for a big hug and love you earning him the affectionate thought of being a big teddy bear.
Jack’s heart was as big as his personality. He gave generously to causes like 4Ocean and St. Jude, and his love for animals shone through in his bond with his Chihuahua, “Little Man.” Whether watching Top Gun for the hundredth time, blasting Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” or catching an episode of Ice Road Truckers, Jack lived with enthusiasm and stayed positive, even in tough times.
Jack leaves behind a legacy as a beloved brother and friend to many, his memory carried in the laughter and stories of those fortunate to know him. This includes his siblings: Jill E.Wood and her husband Paul of Winchester, NH, John E. Boufford Sr. and his wife Michelle of East Swanzey, NH, and Juli E. Langley and her husband Chris of North Swanzey, NH; nieces and nephews: Tina, Jarad, and Charles Wood, Sarah Ellis, Kimberly McElman, John Jr., Jeremy, and Jacob Boufford, Kalee Logan, and Joshua and Mariah Langley; his uncle: Robert Deyo of Keene, NH; great aunt: Betty Spring Caron of New Jersey; closest friends: Wayne Lounder of Keene, NH, Roger Sargent of Florida, and Wendy Brown of Keene, NH; as well as grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends in addition to the Class of ’77. His spirit will live on in every touchdown cheer, every cast into the water, and every heartfelt prank.
Jack’s thoughtfulness extended to his frequent texts to nieces, reminding them they were beautiful and loved, messages they will forever hold dear. Their last visit, filled with his familiar “Hi Hun,” will remain a cherished memory.
