Born to Alfred W. and Emily C. (Vincent) Burke in 1943 in Gardner, MA, Joan was a 1961 graduate of Athol High School and received her LPN from Westborough State Hospital. Joan’s nursing life and family life converged seamlessly with her unlimited capacity to extend unconditional love, support and laughter. Her uncanny humor and wildly mischievous personality remained intact until her final moments. She made us all laugh at this world, even at the ugliest moments. She taught acceptance over judgement; generosity over malevolence. Joan enjoyed the simple beauty found in everyday. Her weekends were spent adventuring on New England backroads with her sister Kathleen. She loved shopping for her grandchildren Connor, Mason, Mackenna, Parrish, Aiden, and Abbie at TJ Maxx. The front porch was her roost when she fed her bird friends. She found solace in poetry and happiness with her daughters. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Mochon; daughters Emily (Andy San Diego) Mochon, Kate (Justin Kirchoff) Mochon, Carrie (Steven) Whiteman; grandchildren; sister, Kathleen Putnam; and nieces and nephews. A celebration of Joan’s life will be postponed until the Spring. Her ashes will be interred at the family plot in the Quabbin Park Cemetery and with family members.

elsewhere,
I’m sure of that,
and I intend to
end up there.”
