

John R. Elder, 86, a resident of Keene, and former resident of Dublin, passed away peacefully at the Maplewood Care and Rehabilitation Center in Westmoreland, on Sunday April 12, 2015, following a period of declining health.
John was born on May 25, 1928, the sixth of twelve children of George and Thelma (Pope) Elder. John was a hard worker, good family man, and friend to many. John graduated from high school in the town where he grew up, Medway Massachusetts. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and traveled widely as he proudly served our country. After leaving the Navy, John embarked on several adventures including a two-year stay in Galveston, Texas, and then moved North with his brothers Andrew and David. John married the love of his life, Elizabeth Wenblad. He was an active member of the Dublin community where he served as a volunteer fireman, Little League coach, and church deacon. Following Elizabeth’s death John set out on a new adventure in Keene where he found his beloved companion Arlene Robidoux.
John was a devoted father and grandfather, and he loved spending time with his family. Gardening was something that he enjoyed growing both flowers and vegetables. He also enjoyed community dances with his friends. John loved animals and always loved spending time with them, especially his cat, “Barney”.
He is survived by his two daughters: Jennifer Elder-Carpenter and her husband John of Walpole, and Jeanne Elder Bennett and her husband Dean of Hancock, his son: James Elder and his wife Brenda of Newfields, five grandchildren: Amialya, Jessica, Josephine, Hannah (Robidoux), and Courtney (Robidoux) two sisters: Geneva Smith and Jeanne Nelson, two brothers: David Elder and Stephen Elder and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is also survived by the family of his dear companion, Arlene Robidoux, who passed away several years ago: Michael Robidoux and his wife Dorothy, and their family. He is predeceased by his wife, his companion, and several siblings.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Dublin Community Church on Saturday, April 18th at 4pm. Family and friends are invited to call on the family on Friday, April 17, 2015, from 4 to 7pm at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH.

John was a good father, grandfather, husband, companion, and friend to all. He will be sorely missed.
