She was born on June 30, 1931 in Wilmington, VT, the daughter of Jasper R. and Laura F. (Moulton) Boyd.
At the young age of 16, Leola married Robert W. Garland and moved to Spofford where they raised their four children. Together they celebrated nearly 66 years of marriage before his passing in 2013.
Although Leola did not work outside the home, she was the secretary for her husband’s carpentry company and cared for many children in her community many of whom continued a relationship with her throughout their lives. She was a caring and supportive mother that had a touch of feistiness and a great sense of humor. She was well known for her cooking and baking, especially her pies. Leola found pleasures in the simple things in life and found peace in relaxing on her porch watching her neighborhood.
Leola will be deeply missed by her four children: Sherry Garland and his significant other Pat Whitcomb of Marlborough, NH, Mona Walsh of Marlborough, NH, Raymond Garland and his wife Sheila of Englewood, FL, and Carol Blaisdell and her husband Peter of Keene; seven grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren; brother: Ralph Boyd of Dummerston, VT; sister: Shirley Franklin and her husband Bill of Vernon, VT; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
She was predeceased by her husband: Robert Garland; brothers: Linden Boyd, Joe Boyd, Tom Boyd, and Bert Boyd; and sisters: Marjorie Boyd and Mildred Stark.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 11:00 am. A double inurnment of Leola and Robert will take place at Center Cemetery in Dummerston, VT at a later date.
