
Lloyd Lot Vickers, 90, of St. Petersburg, FL, and formerly of Keene and North Ft. Myers FL., died Saturday evening at the Woodside Hospice House in Pinellas Park, FL, after a period of declining health.
He was born July 9, 1921, in the Bronx, NY to Lot and Beatrice A. (Parnham) Vickers, Jr.. He attended schools in the Bronx, NY and graduated from the Tilton School in Tilton, NH. in 1938 and from Tilton Junior College in 1940. After that he became a graduate apprentice from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and worked for JT Slocomb Co. of CT., The Tucker Corp. and Foote Brothers in Chicago, Sperry Gyroscope, Beryllium Mfg., Grumman Aircraft in NY before moving to Keene and working for MPB Corp. then Kingsbury Corporation until his retirement.
On January 7, 1944, he joined the US Army Air Corp during World War II stationed at Big Spring, TX where he was in training to become a flight engineer on B29's but the war ended. It was here that he met Alice Lorraine Storrs. They married on April 18, 1946 and had three children before her death in 1953. In June of 1954, he married Janice Keesler and they had six children. He then married Ann L. Bogenrieder on July 16, 1966. They were married for 34 years before her death in 2000.
He belonged to the American Society of Tool & Manufacturing Engineers, The American Rhododendron Society, the American Horticultural Society, the Holly Society of America, The Brooklyn Botanical Garden and the Old Homestead Garden Club.
He enjoyed gardening, photography and writing poetry.
He is survived by three daughters: Hillary A. (Mark) Lilly of Woodstock IL., Robin L. (Vincent) DeMarco of Langhorne PA and Kimberly L. Wood of Brooklyn NY.; six sons: Stephen S. Vickers of St. Petersburg, FL., Jeffrey A. (Junie) Vickers of Londonderry, Wesley G. (Beth) Vickers of Walpole, Darrell W. (Esther) Vickers of Amityville, NY., Brett K. (Natalie Davis) Vickers of St. Petersburg, FL., and stepson Barry J. (Priscilla) Erhardt of North Ft. Myers FL., as well as 30 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by his wives: Alice L. Vickers, Ann L. Vickers, a son Todd P. Vickers, a sister Phyllis Henny, a brother in law Charles Henny and a stepdaughter Gail Issacson.
Services for Mr. Vickers will be held Friday, April 6th at the Fletcher Funeral Home at 11 o'clock. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home from 9 to 11 prior to the start of the funeral. Friends are invited. Burial will take place at the family lot in the Monadnock View Cemetery in West Keene.
