He was born on May 2, 1931 in Keene, NH, son of the late Allan and Grace (Howard) Whitney. He attended local schools and graduated from Keene High School in 1949.
Maury learned a strong work ethic at a young age working alongside his father. He spent most of his working years at Morgan Linen Service Inc. (in route sales and management), before moving to Florida where he worked as a groundskeeper and property manager.
Later in life, Maury reconnected with his high school sweetheart Alyce (Mattson) DeLisle and they married on August 9, 1986, residing in Florida for many years. Upon retirement, he and Alyce moved back to New Hampshire where Maury kept very busy working on projects for the Cheshire County Historical Society and the Keene Public Library’s “Reflections” series amongst many other projects. Maury enjoyed high school football and was thrilled to donate funds to erect the "Blackbird" sign on the rear of the football stands. He loved building his extensive model railroad system, gardening, landscaping, wild animals, birds, the woodlands, the waterways, the clouds in the sky and was always observing the weather often making accurate forecasts.
