Raymond Hastings Barrett, Jr., 82, formerly of Colebrook, NH, died peacefully with family, Saturday night, January 30, 2016, at the Applewood Care and Rehabilitation Center in Winchester, following a period of declining health.
He was born in Keene on November 25, 1933, to Raymond H. and Frances R. (Caldwell) Barrett Sr. He was a 1950 graduate of Keene High School. He enlisted in the United States Army after high school and served for 3 years before his honorable discharge at the rank of Corporal. Four years later he re-enlisted, this time with the United States Navy, serving another four years, and receiving a second honorable discharge, this time with a rank of Seaman.
Upon this final discharge, he returned to the Keene area and began working at MPB, where he worked for over 20 years before retiring and taking up a career as an electrician. He worked for Street Electric as well as for Kozlowski Electric in Meredith before finishing his working career at Heath’s Hardware in Center Harbor. He proudly served as President of the Meredith Lions Club for many years.
He moved to Colebrook, NH in 2007 and lived there up until recently when he returned to the Keene area.
He enjoyed fishing, coaching sports and talking about the weather. He also enjoyed recreationally flying with his son Todd. He would often have dreams of flying, and then call his son to ask questions about his dreams. His positive attitude toward life is what he will be most remembered by. No matter what misfortune life presented, when asked, he was always, “great, great, great!”
He is survived by his sons: Mark Barrett and his wife Rhonda of St. Petersburg, FL, Jay Barrett and his wife Laura of Aliso Viejo, CA, Tobi Barrett and his wife Nicole of Colebrook, NH and Todd Barrett and his wife Stephanie of Colchester, CT; a brother: Wayne G.
