He was born in Keene on June 13, 1945, to the late George L. and Doris (Payne) Davis.
Dickie worked as a trucker for many construction companies and had his own logging company for several years until he met and married his wife of over 30 years, Carolyn “Carol” Willett Davis. Together, Dickie and Carol started their own company, R.W. Davis Trucking, and Dickie found his true passion for working for the railroads. He and his "Big Red" truck were well-known fixtures on many railroad sites around New England. He worked to upgrade railroad tracks, dispose of all old railroad ties, and had a booming business of selling railroad ties for landscaping in Keene and surrounding towns.
Dickie was a people person with the gift of gab. Every person was a friend he just hadn't met yet, so Dickie had many friends. He loved to talk and visit with everyone, and everyone loved him due to his kind heart and gregarious nature. He was a well-known collector of everything from real estate to heavy equipment to vehicles to antiques. His collection of railroad paraphernalia is truly impressive. He loved to go visit auctions with his wife, Carol. They also enjoyed traveling together to exotic locales and loved to go on cruises together.
Dickie leaves behind his wife Carolyn Davis; his sons Richard Davis Jr. and Courtney Davis and wife Lisa Cornish Bagster of Troy, NH; stepdaughters Carrie Venezia of Keene and Amy Rounds and husband Owen Rounds Sr. of Westminster, VT; and grandchildren Nicholas (Erica), Emily (Kyle), Isabella, Owen Jr., Olivia, Kaitlin, Clarice (Colton), Tyler, Kayla (Nick), and Emily. Dickie also leaves behind several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Dickie was predeceased by his siblings Jacqueline Reed, Carolyn Buffum, Charles Davis, Bruce Davis, Paul Davis, Phillip Davis Sr., and Robert Davis, and by his nephew Phillip Davis Jr.
