Robert A. Hughes

He was born in Norwich, CT, May 3, 1960, the son of Robert R. and Elizabeth J. (Watkins) Hughes. He grew up in Montville, CT. Being the child of a Navy veteran, he resided in many states including; Mississippi, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, Alabama and North Carolina.

Mr. Hughes was an Army veteran, serving in the military police. Following his discharge from the Army in September of 1979, he re-enlisted in the Army National Guard.

A resident of Keene for the past twenty-four years, he worked with Smith Medical in Keene, and as a drug and alcohol abuse counselor at the former Otter Brook Center. He later worked for many years in custodial services, starting his own business, ABC Cleaning and later as Hughes Cleaning.

He enjoyed cooking and had a passion for antique cars and trucks. However, his favorite pastime was that of spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Michelle L. (Goodchild) Hughes of Keene, his children; Thomas M. Hughes, Andrew R. Hughes and Jennifer R. Hughes, all of Keene, his mother, Elizabeth Hughes of Harwinton, CT, two brothers; Lawrence A. Hughes of Swanzey, NH, Rick Hughes and his wife, Elizabeth, of Cornelia, GA, two sisters; Jane Bonville and her husband, John, of Harwinton, CT, Leah Gladson and her husband, David, of Austell, GA, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in law; James Bleau and his wife, Denise, Michael Goodchild and his wife, Michelle, all of Keene, Dennis McRae, Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of Bangor, ME, Gary McRae and his wife, Michelle, of Westmoreland, NH, Mark Goodchild of Los Angeles, CA, Matthew Goodchild and his wife Keshia of Lafayette, TN, David Goodchild and Danny Goodchild, both of Keene, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A celebration of life for Mr. Hughes will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Croteau-Coutts American Legion Post 24, Route 101, Marlborough, NH. Family and friends are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Hughes memory to the Robert A. Hughes Memorial Fund, c/o Savings Bank of Walpole, PO Box 744, Keene, NH 03431-0744.
