

She was born, in Conway, NH, on February 10, 1915, the daughter of Charles G. and Rowena (Snell) Cotton. She was raised in Dover, NH and was a 1933 graduate of Dover High School. She then attended the McIntosh Business College and earned her degree in 1935
She married Willard E. Adams, in a ceremony in Nashua, NH, on September 19, 1954. They moved to Swanzey that same year. They celebrated 30 years of marriage before his death in 1985. In 1992, she briefly returned to Dover, for about 5 years, returning to Swanzey in 1998, where she felt was her home.
She worked for over 20 years at the Baxter Woolen Mill in Somersworth, NH.
She was a member of the Golden rod grange, the C.C. Pomona Grange as well as the State and National Grange. She was a true home maker. She preferred and enjoyed living off the land, growing her own foods, canning and freezing, baking her own bread and tending to her extensive flower and vegetable gardens. She lived the outdoors and nature, especially watching the local bird population. She spent evening hours creating and crafting braided rugs, quilting and crocheting many throws and lap blankets for the veterans and other local charities, as well as for her friends and family.
For the last 4 years, she has ridden in the Old Homestead Parade, as “Swanzey’s Oldest Gal”.
She is survived by her dear friends, neighbors and caregivers: Alice and Roland Barrows of Swanzey and a nephew: Mark Corliss and his wife Theresa of Keene. She was predeceased by her husband Willard E. Adams and a brother Milo E. Cotton.
Services for Mrs. Adams, will be held at the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, 679 Old Homestead Hwy, Swanzey, NH 03446, on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the Mt View Cemetery, in Swanzey. There are no public calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made, in Ruth C. Adams name, to the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, PO Box 10041, Swanzey, NH 03446.
