Shirley L. Poulos

Shirley Lorraine Parker Poulos, 64, a long-time resident of Keene, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene, New Hampshire, following a brief illness.

She was born February 9, 1948, in Keene, New Hampshire, the daughter of Merrill Parker and Margaret (Karr) Molesky. She was a 1985 graduate of Keene High School. On August 10, 1997, she married the love of her life, Michael Poulos and the two were married for nearly ten years, until his passing in 2007.

Shirley worked for many years at Shaw’s in Keene. She loved working at the store and always had a smile and warm greeting for the customers she met. Creativity was also one of her strong attributes: she loved making floral arrangements and decorative baskets. She put her heart into everything that she pursued, especially her work as a volunteer: she volunteered for many years with the Alzheimer’s Association, collecting donations for the organization. Her compassionate spirit spread to all parts of her life: her love for her family and her love of animals, especially her dearest companion Sam, her cat, were just two symbols of this deep caring.

She is survived by her brother: David Molesky of Southington, CT, her step-brother: Dale Molesky of Meriden, CT., her step-sister: Theresa Molesky of Meriden, CT., her sister-in-law: Laura Ylitalo and her husband Thomas of Surry, NH., her niece: Terri Ylitalo of Keene, NH, nephews: Thomas Ylitalo and his wife Stacy of Stoddard, NH., Derek Ylitalo of Keene, NH and Vince Ylitalo of Concord, NH. She was predeceased by her step-mother Edith Parker and her twin children who were born in 1980.

A memorial service will be held at the Community Center at Harper Acers, Castle Street in Keene, NH., on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 2pm. Rev. Roger Brooks will officiate.
