
She was born in Westport, NH, on August 10, 1923, the daughter of Sadie A. (Phillips) and Albert L. Plummer.
On March 6, 1940 she married Robert H. VanBrocklin. Together they celebrated over 70 wonderful years before his death in 2010.
Sylvia appreciated a strong sense of community and stayed heavily involved in her town. She had been a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church since 1946. She had also held the position as the Richmond Cemetery Sexton and was the Richmond Supervisor of the Checklist. In addition, she was also an active member in the Richmond Fire Department Auxiliary.
Over the years, she worked caring for others, giving them the ability to stay in their own homes. She had also been in employed by Perkins Machine in Keene, NH, during World War II.
Sylvia found beauty in nature. She especially liked rhododendrons, watching birds, and tending to her garden. More than anything Sylvia loved family and the time she spent with them.
She is survived by her two sons: Bruce VanBrocklin and his wife LaDonna of Falmouth, KY, and Hugh VanBrocklin and his wife Alison of Richmond, NH; one brother: Robert Plummer of Westport, NH; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Lori Thoin and her husband Jon and their daughter Larissa of Marlborough, NH, Julie Craig and her husband Ken and their children Nathan, Stephen, and Hannah of North Tonawanda, NY, Andrew VanBrocklin and his wife Kelly and their children Hunter and Madison of Alfred, ME, Emily Royal and her husband Jason of Winchendon, MA, and Laura VanBrocklin and Jon Fowler of Denver, CO.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Robert H. VanBrocklin and great-grandson Gavin Robert VanBrocklin.
Services for Mrs. VanBrocklin will be at the Richmond Community United Methodist Church, 11 Fitzwilliam Rd, Richmond, NH, on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11:00 am with a burial to follow in the Earl Howard Cemetery in Richmond, NH.
