Joe! My dear neighbor upstairs! You had been through so much before I even met you. Even though it was only a couple of years, your time as my whacky young neighbor kid upstairs is my biggest and favorite memory from living in those apartments. You'd wait on the bottom step downstairs afterschool for me to get back, to come inside and talk to my wise old dad..I was leaving high school and I was few years older, but we both knew what it was like to experience tremndous loss, and I think you were the first person I truly connected with on the subject at that time. A middle school kid guys...What I read in your obituary is true you ARE an old soul...as am I, and I think it's because the heartbreak we suffered. All that being said, you could have been a stand up comedian! Would have been an absolute pleasure to joke with you as an adult.. GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR, mature smart humor ar that. Again, middle school kid into high school my short time knowing Joe..humor is very very important to me as I grow out of dark years, and it's what brought you to mind after all these years. I hope you remember me as fodly as I do you. It's been so many years, and my recent search to connect and catch up was cut short when I found out you died in your sleep..you were so young I don't even know what happened but I'm happy to know you were resting. Its tough to know you passed, and I can't believe I found your obituary. I can't believe I JUST MISSED YOU. I can't believe your funeral was the exact same day as my late dad who was also fond of you..The connections and dark emotions I've figured out in my years aging on, were the complex thoughts first explored by my discussions with a young thoughtful Joe. YOU, are a Legend to me kid. And to be honest, didn't even know you that well.

Joe you were so much to so manyyyyy. I love you more then words could explain. This day/night wraps up our entire relationship!!! I’ve spent the last couple of days trying to find the right words to explain what kind of young man Joe Greutman was to me, and anybody who knows me knows that I like to make a point by telling a story. August 28th 2014 was easily the worst day of my life, I received a phone call at 3:15 during 8th period that my mother had suffered a traumatic “cerebral event”, two hours later at 5:15 I was called and told that she would not survive, and they were turning off the machines when all of my family got there.  It was the second week of school and easily one of the busiest times of the year and being gone at the beginning of the year is never ideal. About ten days later after my mothers funeral and burial and whatnot I returned to work. That morning, the FIRST person who came in my room was Joe, and I’ll never forget what he said. He gave me a big hug and said “I know what it’s like to lose your mom, if you ever want to talk about it, I’ll be around”.  There’s plenty about him to know, love and remember, but that will ALWAYS be my favorite Joe memory.  He was a fun loving free spirit, but at his core he was one of the most caring, kind-hearted people I’ve ever known. Rest easy sir, and when you see her tell Mom hey for me.

Not only did I lose a great friend, Sunday, but the domain fam lost a great friend. 
We lost an amazing man. He was my next door neighbor and friend. I will always cherish our conversations because we had the exact same mindset on life. We both always preached how we’re not promised tomorrow. I wish you were still here on earth so you can continue to share your mindset to others. BUT we all can do it for you from here on out, Joe Greutman. 💛 gone but deeefinitely not forgotten.

Joe was like a brother to me in high school. He always have my back and he also thought me as his little bro. 

I’ll never forget 6th grade Third Period PE with Joe. This day coaches were timing shuttle runs and at the time Jimmy London had the fastest shuttle run at the school which was 4.56 seconds. After coaches got done teaching us the proper technique we all timed our shuttle run and we all did significantly better. When it was Joe’s turn I remember his face getting really serious. We timed this in a hallway that had some of the slickest floors to this day. Joe took a deep breath and closed his eyes then began his shuttle run. It felt like it went by in a blink and when he finished Coach Thomas froze and looked up astound and read out loud “4.56”. We all gave Joe a huge embrace and the coaches were appalled a 6th grader could even tie such a record. Everything athletically Joe did was incredible, but his character and who he was as a person was even greater. I am honored to have known Joe throughout my life and I will never forget the the time in my life I was able to call him my friend. 

Joe, I didn’t know you that well but the first year I worked at Byron in the front office.  You were always so sweet and respectful to me. You always came in with a smile. For that I want to say thank you for making my job a little better each day! 

Joe, you where so sweet to me in Highschool, always saying hello and giving me a big hug on a hard day. You’ll be greatly missed brother!

My memory of Joe was always a challenge but life of the party.  I was in charge for a while of our Destination Imagination group and he just liked to have fun in the 5th grade!  I also remember the hardships he went thru in 3rd grade losing his mother, sister and grandmother all in one year.  That was really tough.  I do know that Preston's late grandmother tried her best to comfort him and help him thru that very hard time.
I am sad to see such a potential young man have his life cut short.
Many knew him better than me but I pray he rests in peace and knows he was truly loved by many.
Love you Joe, you will be missed.

Joe was like a big brother to me. I loved hanging out with him he was always making somebody laugh! We really got close when we had a class together my junior year and I cried to him in the hallway about my boy problems! He loved so big and I will always remember Joe. 

I don’t have any specific memories of Joe, but when he was in my class he was always full of positive energy. He never let the things going on in his life bring him down. People rallied around him because he had such an amazing personality.   Joe, even at 10 you made an impression on me and I hope you are finally at peace.   

My sweet Joe Joe, there have been SO many memories throughout the years all filled with laughter. 
I am so blessed to have known and loved you and your family. I'll always remember you jumping off the awning onto the couch at the Oatmont house LOL, you were something else!! 
Thank you for the adventures and being the best "little brother" around. 
Kiss your momma and hug your sister for me, I'll miss you forever.

Joe was such a sweet soul who was very much loved by our family. He will always hold a special place in our hearts!

It’s seriously hard to pick a favorite memory of Joe. BUT…there is one in particular that my family and I still laugh about today. In second grade, my aunt picked me up from Lakeview Elementary in her brand new Cadillac Escalade. As I was walking off to get in her car, Joe yelled “tell your aunt she has a sick ride with gangster wheels!” He was always the life of the party.

I will miss our sweet Joe dearly!

Joe aka my son 🤍, I will miss you. I wish that night I would of talked to you alittle longer fuss alittle longer you tell me mom I know. Although I was not your biological mom I lost a son. My heart breaks everyday that your gone physically but I know your with family that you spoke so high of. You accomplished so much at your age. God received such an angel, a son, a brother, a uncle. To all the friends and family that may see this just know I'm here for you because Joe we're all family

Enjoyed getting know Joe and watching him play football at Byron Nelson.  He was a great player there!  He came over to the house and lifted weights in our garage sometimes, and we enjoyed the times we got together with the Haire family and Ed Greutman and Joe and ate some great food and enjoyed great fellowship!  I enjoyed talking to Joe about life and encouraging him, and I know we’ll all miss him! RIP Joe

I got to coach Joe for his senior year of high school football and I can honestly say he was one of the toughest football players I’ve ever known. He’d never back down from a challenge, never doubt himself or his teammates, never leave any gas left in the tank. He was loved by many and revered by the rest. Rest In Peace Joe.

My favorite times with joe were while we were roommates. The many hours spent relaxing after long days at work talking about life, family, our mistakes, and our new journeys in improving all of the above.

My story with Joe takes place during summer football practices, it was hot outside but I was just glad to be out there with the older guys. It was my sophomore year I’m young feeling myself, I get the play call from Preston I line up “Hut” catch the ball I see Joe flying down ready to take my head off I make him miss lol I’m thinking the play is over with I look back “BOOOMM!!!!!” Joe got me. After scraping  myself off the ground I go to the sideline feeling defeated and sure enough there Joe is patting me on the back telling me to keep my head up and to never give up on a play. I kept that lesson in life. RIP miss you forever big bro !!!!!

My sweet Joe you touched so many lives in the short time you were here on earth. I am so happy that my family had the opportunity to have you stay with us on occasion. You were the son I never had and the little brother to pester Logan any time you had the chance . I watched you grow from a little 2nd grader into a wonderful loving man. We will always love you sweet Joe and will hold you close in our hearts.

Growing up with Joe was never boring. He was a firecracker from the minute he was born. Cindi and I were older than him by quite a bit, but my best memories are from us cooking snacks for Joe right when he got home from school. He would sit and talk with us, or he'd be moving the whole time waving his grilled cheese crust around and being a goofball. His big personality was so infectious.  He will be so deeply missed. 💔

I remember Joe in the hallways of Byron with a smile and kindness. I think of him with fond memories, surrounded by Bobcats who loved and cared for him.  

Joe was so mischievous through middle school. When he spent the night with Jack, he would go into my bathroom and replace the shampoo with chocolate syrup or something else out of the fridge! By the third time, I always looked before getting in! Lol
In 7th grade, Joe had gotten in trouble for something. Ed showed up to school with a paddle. He wanted to spank Joe in the front office. We told him he couldn’t spank him at school. Ed proceeded to check him out, take him to the barber and had his head shaved and busted his rear end at Jimi’s shop across the street and brought him back to school. Lol

Joe Joe, so many memories are going thur my head but one of the top ones was when I took you shopping in southlake town square, you were only 9 year olds and we found a skateboarding store that you HAD to go into.  We bought every single gold foil print everything you could imagine that day. Insisting on wearing everything at the same time we waited for Cindi to get home from work so you could show her your new attire but not before putting the ‘grill’ in your mouth she had gotten your from the middle of the mall. You were so proud and excited!  Dancing and singing every rap song you knew and skateboarding in the house. You always knew how to keep us laughing and asking ‘what will he do or say Next’.  It was always such a joy watching your live your best life! This is not Good-bye but see ya later. Love you little brother! 

To know Joe was to love him.  There was so much love in his heart, and he brightened everyone’s day when he was around.  We will never forget the time we spent together, family dinners, shopping trips, Jersey Shore watch parties, movie nights, Arkansas road trips, and the countless sporting events.  We could never pick just one memory because there are so many memories we will cherish forever.  You were like a son to us, and we will LOVE you FOREVER.  Until we see you again, we love you and miss you so much.  Fly high bud

Joe you were the funniest little kid when I first met you! Skating and running around all crazy! I will never forget the time I accidentally hurt you. You were swimming in the pool one time and I threw the skateboard in the pool and it cut your head open to where you needed stitches. I was sooo scared your mom would beat me to the inch of my life! You and your whole family are amazing caring and compassionate people! I hope you’re up there with your mom and Danae watching over your family! 

Whether we were traveling to the beach, watching football, shopping or just laying around the house with the family, we always enjoyed our time together making memories! My favorite memory with Joe Joe was flying him in to surprise my sister for an early Christmas gift. It was the hardest secret both Joe and I had ever had to keep! We love and miss you Joe Joe. Fly high bubba! ❤️

I always looked up to him as a brother. He was one to put everyone first before himself and check on everyone. Grandma and grandpa are definitely keeping him safe up there and making sure he is taken care of. He was always goofy and fun to be around, I always got excited when I heard he was going to be over at grandma and grandpas for Sunday dinner.
