She was the oldest of seven children. The family had a Roof Tile and Brick Factory. They also had a small farm. After school there were chores to do including herding cattle and working in the fields. After a long day, a swim in the river was most welcome.
Ed Strome, who was from Canada, was visiting relatives in Germany, found his true love, Agnes. After their engagement Agnes prepared her immigration documents and in July 1954 sailed to Canada, and married Ed in October, 1954. They started their family and broke land to establish a farm yard north of Muenster, SK near where Ed grew up. In 1963, after 9 years of farming, they moved the family to the town of Humboldt. Ed found his passion in woodworking to become a finishing carpenter. Agnes was a dedicated mother in raising 5 children. She loved to bake, cook, sew, and garden. She also enjoyed camping with family at Waldsea, Marean, and Greenwater Lakes. Ed and Agnes took up Square Dancing, something they really enjoyed.
In 1973, they moved to Red Deer where home construction was booming. Agnes worked part-time at Eaton’s department store. They joined the German Canadian Club where they met new friends and enjoyed Oktoberfest, Carnival, Summer Nights Fest and campouts.
In 1986, Ed and Agnes retired in the Shuswap area near Sorrento BC. Retirement life saw mom venture into tennis, skiing, square dancing, travel, gardening, volunteering at the Cedar Heights Community Centre, and was a member of the church choir.
In 2007, Ed and Agnes moved to Vernon BC. Ed passed in 2018. In 2023, mom moved into Noric House Care home, and in 2024, moved to Three Links Manor in Kelowna to be closer to her daughter, Anita.
