A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend.
At the age of 92, it is with great love and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alex Mitchell. Predeceased by his beautiful wife Alison. Survived by his children Jill (Dave), Grant (Sheila), Audrey (Rick), Lisa (Brad) and his many grandchildren: Jeff, Heather (Evan, great grandchild Bennett) Alexandra (Luke, great grandchild Adeline) Gavin, Jade, Aidyn, Lindsey (great grandchildren Elyse and Nathan), Madison (Rob, great grandchildren Carson and Felix) and Jason (Amber, great grandchildren Tessa, Taylor and Tanner) and so many cherished friends.
Alex was born in Fishcross and grew up in Sauchie, Scotland where he met the love of his life at age 15. They married in 1954 and immigrated to Canada in 1957 and together, they lived an inspired life. Through his many stories (which he loved to tell) you truly understood that no matter how tough life may be, if you worked hard - you would succeed. Alex was living proof.
Throughout his life’s adventures, he was always found to be as “smart as a whip”, a most generous and kind soul with a heart of gold; reflected in the number of stray dogs he adopted from the street or dog pound. He cherished his family and many friends, always making sure they knew he loved them.
Alex was a strong, hardworking and determined individual. The wonderful stories of his life shared with us, will be remembered and cherished forever.
A heartfelt thank you to: Hawthorn Park Retirement Residence and the many new friends he met there. The doctors at the B.C. Cancer agency; the team from 3 East at KGH; Dr. Mentz and the nurses and care aids at the Kelowna Hospice House.
A celebration of Alex’s life will be held Friday, September 26th at 2:00 p.m. at Valleyview Funeral Home, 165 Valleyview Rd., Kelowna B.C.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice House or the B.C. Cancer Foundation, Kelowna.
Your presence, kind words and support during this difficult time have brought us comfort and strength. We are grateful to you all.
Thank you.
