Anna Bernice Plain (nee Campbell) Born June 7/1929 - November 22/2021
Our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed on to be with her husband George of 67 years and her large family, many friends and beloved pets who welcomed her into heaven.
She is survived by her six children, Larry, Brad, Connie, Joyce, Shaunet and George Junior., their partners in life, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Anna was born in Westlock, Alberta to Eric and Ethel Campbell. She had 5 brothers and 4 sisters which made for a lively busy home and many helping hands on their family farm. Anna met George in Westlock and they were married on November 14, 1947. They purchased their own mixed farm and started their family. Larry, Brad, Connie and Joyce were born there. In 1959, Anna and George picked up and moved to the coastal town of White Rock, BC, where they built a home and began mink ranching. Their last two children, Shaunet and George were born there. Anna was a well-organized mom and housekeeper, gardening, preserving food and keeping us all well fed which was no small task. She worked tirelessly caring for us all and making sure that every holiday and family event was celebrated with gusto.
Anna and George farmed for another 10 years in White Rock before moving to Kelowna in 1969. They owned and operated the Kenogan Motel located on Glenmore Road (Gordon Drive) and Hwy 97 for years, welcoming many tourists to all of the wonders of the valley. After just over 10 years, the motel was sold and they moved to Calmels Crescent, which would be their home for 30 years. Mom loved Kelowna and it’s warm sunshine. I believe that Kelowna is where Moms love of flowers really began to bloom. Dad always helped her with ensuring she had a beautiful yard filled with flowers of all kinds. She took full advantage of the plentiful fresh fruit and vegetables in the Valley. There was always a home full of wonderful smells from mom's baking. She made the most tantalizing pies, cookies and cakes and had the patience to teach her children and grandchildren her many tricks of the trade. She worked tirelessly caring for us all and making sure that every holiday and family event was celebrated.
In addition to always being involved with family, mom and Dad had a large social circle. As a couple, they square danced for decades and made lifelong friends to travel and entertain with.
Mom was also actively involved in the local quilters guild, watercolor group and she loved to knit. Her quilts, paintings and knitted items have always been treasured gifts by her family.
In her last 15 years, Mom spent some years with Dad living at the Okanagan Chateau and after Dad passed on in 2014, Mom moved to Three Links Long Term Care in 2018. Her years without Dad by her side, were spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren enjoying birthdays, card games, puzzle making, baking, and Sunday dinners.
Our matriarch, our mother, a human with insurmountable beauty inside and out is celebrated today. Her warmth, tenderness and love was palpable and while she will be missed, she lives within us and always will.
