It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chris, a beloved husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend and colleague. After a long and difficult battle with his health, Chris passed away two days before spring, with his loving wife, Karen, by his side and birds singing at the window.
Chris was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and mainly lived in Victoria, British Columbia, until he moved to Kelowna, British Columbia, in 1992. Chris had a diverse work history in various fields, such as communications in paging, real estate and trucking. He was a hard worker, dedicating himself to his job and always striving to improve. His true passion, however, was music. He was a talented guitar player, which he began playing at age 10 and he loved to sing. His love of music was evident in every note he played. Chris had a great appreciation for nature, enjoying boating, fishing and hiking in the forest. He was also skilled at cooking, yet his favourite food was a hot dogs, mainly because he wasn’t allowed to eat them.
Chris was predeceased by his parents, John and Jean Nowell. He is survived by his wife Karen and her daughter, Gail (Ken), siblings Martin (Deb) and Melissa (Ron), Karen’s siblings Billy, Carol (Paul), Charlotte (Mariano), Roberta (Randy) and many nieces and nephews. Chris’ friend Tom Mcmahon, whom was his main guitar partner, was also a great support to him and Karen over the years, particularly the last 10, when Chris and Karen’s life was so focused on medical appointments and procedures for Chris. Everyone that knew Chris will fondly remember his calm and positive demeanour, his care in how others were doing – even at the most challenging of times with own health problems, and his gratitude for the people in his life.
Chris’ passing has left a huge void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Karen, whom will miss him every moment of the day and will seek solace in the many memories they shared together. Karen would like to express appreciation for all loved ones that supported her and Chris and also to health care providers in Chris’ courageous journey with his health, including Dr. Marie Michaud of the renal unit at Kelowna General Hospital, Dr. Sarah Robbins at Kelowna General Hospital, Dr. Isidor Segers and the staff at the Central Okanagan Hospice House, whom provided palliative care to Chris at the very end of his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you treat yourself or a loved one to something special, be it a gift or an experience. That’s what Chris would have wanted. Rest in peace, Chris.
