Donald (Don) Angus Gowing was born on April 25, 1933 in Calgary, Alberta to parents Angus and Thelma Gowing. Dad passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on January 5, 2026 at Cottonwoods Care Facility in Kelowna, BC with family members and wonderful care staff at his side. Don was predeceased in 2021 by Patricia Gowing, his loving and devoted wife of 67 years.
Don is lovingly remembered by his children David (Peggy) Gowing; Barry (Gail) Gowing; Barbara (Ted) Rud, and Heather Pearson (Jeff Pauliuk) and his seventeen grandchildren and 13 great-grand children. Don is also sadly missed by his sisters Laverne Whitman, Yvonne Campbell and sister-in-law Myrna Gowing. He was predeceased by sisters Delores Workman, Hazel Davies, brother Terry Gowing and grand-daughter Cheryl Rud.
Shortly after his marriage to Patricia in 1953, Don entered into apprenticeship with the International Typographical Union, the oldest trade union in the world. Following several years of study and experience, he was accepted into the trade union in 1957, and embarked on a career in printing that spanned 36 years during which he achieved journeyman papers in five categories of the printing profession. Don's career took him from Calgary to Blairmore, Medicine Hat, Red Deer and Tsawwassen, BC. Following his retirement in 1993 Don and Patricia remained in Tsawwassen and spent many years travelling the world, golfing, cycling and gardening. Don and Patricia moved to Peachland, BC in 2015 and together enjoyed lake living for several years until Patricia's passing in 2021. Dad's final years were spent in the Chartwell Retirement community in Kelowna where he forged important and lasting friendships.
There will be a celebration of life in the next few months for Don's immediate family at which time his final requests will be attended. The family would like to thank Dr. Bajela for his kind and compassionate care for dad as well as the staff at both Chartwell and Cottonwoods for their exceptional care and kindnesses extended to dad.
