Dorie was born on December 26, 1927 and was raised with five siblings in Vernon BC. When in high school, Dorie won an award at the PNE for her seamstress skills and she continued sewing clothing, teddy bears and household items, even when she and George went south in their RV. Dorie’s creative skills extended to wall art, table decor and Christmas nativity scenes (United Church displayed one for years). She enjoyed organizing and helping at events.
Dorie and George moved to Kelowna in 1961; George being a Realtor and Dorie a homemaker and Credit clerk when Sears opened on Bernard Ave. Dorie worked in banks as a young woman and had a keen sense of numbers. Dorie always had her hair done, earrings, jewelry and a coordinated outfit on before enjoying her first, and only, coffee of the day.
Dorie is survived by her daughters: Val (Glenn) Ebl of Kelowna, Maureen (Dale) Flinn of Dapp AB, Jan Herman of Kelowna, Deb (Mike) Ritchie of Kelowna. Grandchildren: Carrie (Gerry) Ruch, Rob Trotter, Travis Flinn, Mike Herman, Mark (Rianna) Ritchie, Neil Herman, Beth Ritchie. Great-grandchildren: Stephanie Laranjo, Kyle Flinn, Rylan Ruch, Regan Ruch, Lian Ruch, Morgan Arcand, Lucas Ritchie, Noah Ritchie, and Great-great-grandson Hartley Arcand.
