Dorothy's love and care touched every member of her immediate and extended family who were all very important to her.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren benefited from a vivacious, energetic woman who participated actively in their lives, cheering them on and travelling regularly to see them all. Card games, TV game shows, pies, homemade cinnmon buns and popcorn balls were key parts of their relationships with Grandma.
Dorothy graduated high school in 1941 and moved to Regina enrolling in Reliance Business School. Over the course of the next few years, Dorothy met and was courted by a handsome man from McLean, SK. Dorothy and Roy B. Leibel married in 1944 and in 1951 moved to Milestone, SK to pursue a business opportunity which eventually led to the purchase of a general store named The L&B Store which they owned and operated until their retirement in 1975.
Dorothy was an active and positive person throughout her life, always willing to try something new, lend a helping hand and meet a new friend. In Milestone, Dorothy was involved in many and various community acivities most notably the Square and Round Dance Clubs and the Milestone Dinner Theatre, directing the Milestone Prairie Players at home and on the international stage. Dorothy and Roy also shared a love of travel and adventure and during the course of their life together extensively travelled the globe.
In the early 90s, Roy and Dorothy moved to Oliver, BC, a community they easily fell in love with. Dorothy quickly immersed herself in community activities being very active in the Oliver Senior Centre and the bridge club, the thrift shop, the Oliver Gleaners, the Friendship Force, the bowling and bocci ball teams, and the Legion, all of which led her to form many wonderful and lasting friendships.
Dorothy moved to independent living in Winfield, BC in 2013 and in 2021 became a resident of the Spring Valley Care Centre in Kelowna where she passed away surrounded by family and loving, compassionate caregivers.
Beyond her passion for people, travel and theatre, she loved cards and was an exceptional cribbage and bridge player. Dorothy shared her enjoyment for cribbage throughout her life and continued to teach and play the game at Spring Valley with her good friends and caregivers. She exuded youthful energy that endured to her last days.
Dorothy's positivity, passion for life and caring spirit impacted all who knew her. She leaves behind her joy and love and a reminder to live life to the fullest each and everyday.
