passed away peacefully in her sleep in the late evening of Sunday February 11th 2018 after a brief illness. She was well cared for at Sutherland Hills Rest Home since October 2017. The care staff and nurses all thought she was lovely and enjoyed having her there.
Mom was born in Kamloops, B.C. on April 10th, 1923...she almost made 95!
She did various things throughout her life and she cherished the life- long friends she made along the way. Mom moved to Vancouver in the 60’s where she worked as a “cigarette girl” at the Hotel Vancouver. Later on she worked in the pharmacy department at Robson Drugs on Robson Street where she met my father John. They married July 17th 1962. She then worked at BC Tel as head operator till she learned at 44 yrs old that she was to become a mother for the first time and focused her attention on the home. Mom was an incredible homemaker taking such pride in keeping an immaculate home. Mom and Dad were wonderful cooks and family and friends were always the beneficiary of their incredible 5-star meals! The garden, the grounds and the flowers were ideal for entertaining and they enjoyed having many friends and family over throughout the week. In later years they travelled thru the United States and Hawaii. Mom and Dad also opened up their home to become Betty’s B&B where they were pleased and amazed to meet so many wonderful strangers who came into their lives and became friends who would visit year after year.
Mom also enjoyed her volunteering time at Prime Time each Monday afternoon at the Seniors Activity Centre in Winfield, BC. where she was President for a time. Mom looked forward each week to seeing all her “special buddies”. She loved to dance and encouraged anyone who would and could to get up and join her on the dance floor. She cared deeply for the residences that came out each week and her friends that volunteered together with her over her 35 years! She had an incredibly generous nature, always remembered birthdays, anniversaries and always kept in close touch with everyone in her life...which were many.
She had a smile for everyone and always made people feel welcome.
She loved her family without exception. Her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren were all incredibly special. In her immediate life was me, her daughter Kelly, her son-in-law Tony and our children Lily-Ana and William. Prior to her going in to the care home, mom lived with us for 2 ½ years. She loved living with our family and being part of the day to day craziness.
She was predeceased by my Dad June 11th, 2010.
As mom would say... “Till we meet again”
