Ethel Mary Wood (nee Woollett, Jay) on December 18, 2024 at the age of 101 years in Kelowna B.C.
Mom was born on the family farm at Muir Lake, west of Edmonton, Alberta on February 28,1923 to Ernie and Millie Jay. Although she lost her own Mother at the young age of 6 yrs, and experienced many challenges consistent with the time and her isolated location, Mom was determined to become a Registered Nurse. She found a way, through determination and farm girl’s work ethic to reach that goal. While the 2nd World War raged on, Mom graduated from the Royal Alexandra Hospital School of Nursing in Edmonton in 1942 and worked in Edmonton hospitals for several years. She was very proud of that achievement, maintaining contact with her classmates, organizing and attending reunions well into her senior years. Mom also assisted her 2nd husband Dr. Harris Wood in his specialized Dental practice for many years starting in the mid 1960’s.
Mom never lost her nursing perspective on life, showing kindness, concern and the desire to help others whenever possible, always with a compassionate heart and positive attitude. She was strong in her Christian faith, and attended McDougall United Church in Edmonton before moving to Kelowna in 2017.
Her greatest pleasure was a house full of family especially grand children and great grand children, happily satisfying their every whim and desire.
Mom was predeceased by her eldest son Bryan Woollett, daughter in law Bernadette Hrynyk; siblings John Jay, Myrtle Hubbel, her first husband Wilfred Woollett, second husband Dr. Harris S Wood and third husband Sidney Daviss.
She is survived by her daughter Jane Zavierucha (Fred), son Gordon Woollett (Jan), son Wayne Woollett
