THIESSEN: Henry of Kelowna, passed away at the Kelowna Hospice House on September 9th, 2012 at the age of 83 with his wife Li by his side. Henry is survived by his loving wife Li, his children Bryan (Sally) , Marlene, Ralph (Stacy), Jeff (Jennifer); grandchildren Marty, Josh, Corinna, Cayley, Rebecca, Griffin and Tate; step-children Tita(Rey), Gigi(Mike), Tuesday(John) , Marlon (Lolet), Ramel (Juliet); step-grandchildren; siblings Mary(Mike)Brelis, Walter (Hildegard) , John(Doris) and nieces and nephews. Henry left home at a young age but through his hard work and perseverance he obtained employment with the Canadian Pacific Railway. His sense of fair play and commitment to serve others led to a long and accomplished career within the railway union. His skills as a negotiator coupled with his determination served him, and those he represented, well. His retirement only saw the end of a paid career, as he continued on as the Elected Representative of the CPR Pension Board up until this year. Henry was an avid cribbage player and organized weekly sessions for a group of seniors. As a father, Henry worked hard to provide for his family. As happens to many families, children grow up and move away. As a dad Henry encouraged his children to chase their dreams. Despite the distance, Dad was never far away, and was always willing to lend a hand or provide advice. In death, Dad will continue to be close to us. We will never forget him and all he did for us. A Celebration of Henry’s life will be held on Saturday, September 15th, 2012 at 2:00 PM from First United Church, 721 Bernard Ave, Kelowna. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or Kelowna Hospice House in memory of Henry. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.mem.com, clicking on stories and typing in Henry Thiessen.
