

OTTENBREIT: Janet Chalmers McQueen (nee Smith) “Nettie” passed away 21 September 2011 at Spring Valley Care Centre, Kelowna, BC at the age of 89. She is survived by son Larry and his wife Marilyn of Halifax, N.S., sisters Rena Tait and Elizabeth Grieve in Scotland, sisters-in-law Anne (Peter Ozero), Revelstoke, BC and Joan Ottenbreit, Mission, BC as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada and the U.K. Predeceased by her husband George, infant son Stuart and brother Charles. Nettie came to Canada a War Bride in 1947. She embraced her new family and country but never lost her love for Scotland. She resided most of her life in Kelowna but also lived in Sask., Ont. and Alta, where she was always active in the community, particularly with her church and the Girl Guide movement. She cherished family and friends and maintained contact with them throughout the world for most of her life. For the past six years she was lovingly cared for by the excellent staff of Spring Valley Care Centre. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 839 Sutherland Ave. , Kelowna, B.C. on Tuesday, September 27th, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Cremation to follow. Inurnment will take place in the Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Regina, Saskatchewan at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Cancer Fund of one’s choice in memory of Nettie.
