John was by all accounts a precocious child and from the beginning had an aptitude for fixing things. He attended Lord Bing High School, leaving early to work for his Dad's auto shop...there he learned the mechanic's trade and developed a life long love of hot rods.
He married Margaret (nee Anderson) of Drumheller AB in 1956 and in 1957 welcomed Correy, followed by Cindy in 1958, and Bart in 1960. The family settled in North Vancouver, later moving to Calgary, Edmonton and then back to Calgary where John further explored his love of hot rods and drag racing, later building a drag car that he raced at local speedways with Bart; the "Screamin Demon"
John worked for various Fork Lift companies In Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton including with his father at Jack Mason Lift Truck Services and founded John Mason Forklift in Edmonton. After leaving Edmonton John moved on to a a number of positions in the BC interior, retiring in the late 80's as Plant Manager with Columbia Chrome in Tumbler Ridge.
In his retirement John returned to Kelowna to care for his aging parents. During this time he met and married Angela (nee) of Abbotsford in 199_. They settled in Kelowna.
A Great gardener, a loving dog owner (Rosie and Timmy), a fantastic cook, antique car restorer and a man possessed of a wicked wit who didn't shy away from telling, OFTEN, off colour jokes. He made people laugh, young and old, and was a good friend to too many to name.
John is survived by wife Angela, his 3 children, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. He was a big personality and the hole his passing has left in the hearts of those who knew him is huge but we will remember all the good things that made him who he was and it will help us all to go on.
We'll love and miss you always...until we meet again.
