

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John (Ian) Thomson Steel who passed away in Kelowna BC on June 23, 2021 at the age of 94.
Ian is survived by his wife. Catherine (Rena) of 69 years, daughters, Sandra Hamm (Alan), Anne Hamilton (Harry Martens), grandchildren, Jason, Dale, Melissa, Jennifer, Kirstie and Brett along with 7 great grandchildren.
Ian was born in Glasgow Scotland on June 7, 1927, married Rena on June 7, 1952. Ian served in the Scottish army as a signalman from March 1947 to June 1949, stationed in Middle East Suez Canal Zone. Upon returning home, Ian began a career in communications.
Ian then immigrated to Canada with Rena and his two daughters on May 24, 1967 to Brandon, Manitoba where he was employed with Manitoba Telephone System. Approximately 6 years later accepted a position with BC Telephone Company in Kelowna, BC.
Ian and Rena enjoyed travelling with special friends and family throughout Europe, Canada and the United States. At every opportunity they enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ian’s family would like to extend a special thanks to palliative care and Hospice House for their care and compassion during Ian’s (Dad’s) last days.
