Lisa was born in Netherlands in 1934, living and surviving WWII as a child in occupied Holland, including the bombing of Rotterdam. She immigrated to Canada by ship and train to join her husband Bob in 1953, and so embarked on a new life that would bring her many adventures. Mom and Dad were hard working immigrants, holding many jobs to make ends meet. They studied together to successfully take the exams leading to Canadian Citizenship and were proud Canadians for the rest of the lives. We thanked them for that decision and choice every Canada Day.
Lisa was a creative and talented housewife and mother. She sewed, knitted, grew glorious vegetable and flower gardens, cooked, baked and preserved, painted the house inside and out, as well as raised three boisterous daughters – there was no domestic task that Mom could not turn her hand at and make a success. Once the children were launched to school, she returned to her piano and completed her Royal Conservatory certification and spent many years teaching piano lessons and theory to local children afterschool. When Dad retired in 1986, they moved from the Coast to the Vernon area, where they built their dream home on a small acreage and thrived in Okanagan life. Mom enjoyed volunteering with the Ladies Auxilliary for over 25 years at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. In their later years, Mom and Dad enjoyed many trips around the world, but always enjoyed coming home to Vernon.
Lisa was predeceased by the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Adrian Ydo (2016), and she will be missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters Elisabeth (Ted) of Nelson, Alixandra (Herb) of Kelowna and Michelle (Werner) of Armstrong. She is survived and fondly remembered as Oma by her four grandchildren, Robert, Dustin, Lauren, and Claire. Thank you to Dr. Micheal Kos (Kelowna), Sunpointe Village Ellison Unit Staff, and the many people who helped Mom in her final years. No public service by request, and a private ceremony is planned for later this summer.
