Krystallia Tassopoulos (née Psyridis) passed away on June 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on July 27, 1935, in Pyrgos, Ilias, Greece, and immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1967. Shortly after, her beloved husband Athanasios (Tom) joined her, and they were married on September 7, 1968.
Krystallia built a beautiful life in Winnipeg, raising her family and working for many years growing flowers at Broadway Florists Greenhouses and as a talented seamstress at Pennington’s and Eaton’s in the women’s alterations department. She and Tom spent countless weekends at their cherished cottage at Whitesands Estates near Grand Beach, MB, where they warmly welcomed family and friends.
A creative spirit and lover of nature, Krystallia found great joy in gardening, especially caring for her many flowers. She also loved sewing, knitting, crocheting, and cooking her renowned Greek dishes and desserts. In 2004, after retiring, Krystallia and Tom moved to Kelowna, BC—a place she lovingly called “paradise.” Though they had only visited once, the Okanagan Valley’s orchards and natural beauty reminded them of Greece. She quickly made their new home bloom, planting cherry, apricot, and walnut trees, grapevines, and even a fig tree that proudly produced two figs. Her vibrant vegetable garden was a reflection of her passion and care.
Krystallia was predeceased by her parents, Aspasia and Panagiotis Psyridis, and her brother Yanni. She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Athanasios (Tom); her daughters Diane (Gerald) Twanow and Patty (Darren) Thickson; her grandchildren Jessika, Micheal (Jaime), Karly, and David; and her great-granddaughter, Maisy.
Krystallia was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, and a proud new great-grandmother. She was deeply loved by her family and all who knew her. Her warmth, kindness, and generous spirit will be dearly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful nurses, care aides, and staff at Brookhaven Nursing Home for their dedicated care. A very special thank you goes to Nurse Anita, whose compassion, love, and exceptional care for Krystallia went above and beyond. As a family, we are forever grateful and could never thank her enough.
