We are proud to celebrate the life of Lena Marguerite Klassen who peacefully slipped away on November 21, 2016. Lena leaves behind her loving husband Peter of 71 years and her children Lynn (Mac) Frey, Russ (Betty), Steve (Nancy). Along with numerous grandchildren and great -grandchildren. Lena was predeceased by her daughters Jane and Deborah. Lena was born in Gregorjewka, Russia and immigrated to Canada as a child. When Lena was young, her family home which was in Rush Lake Saskatchewan was the “Doctor’s waiting room” for the community. There she learned to care for others and this started her on a path to a lifetime of community service. At the age of 19 Lena married Peter and the two moved to Gull Lake Saskatchewan, where she was a farmer’s wife, a homemaker as well as a School Board Trustee. In 1969, her and Peter relocated to Kelowna, British Columbia where she taught home economics at George Pringle Secondary. When Mount Boucherie opened she transferred there and taught English, home economics and child care, until her retirement in 1985. Her later years were spent volunteering for variety of groups including the UCW, Cancer Support Group, Hospice, and Pastoral Care for Kelowna General Hospital. Her last two years were spent in Lakeview Lodge where she graciously accepted the care and concern so lovingly provided by Dr. Banwell and the Vineyards staff.
There will be a celebration of life for Lena at the Westbank United Church on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 1:00pm with a reception to follow.
