Lennora Eleanor Wilson

Eleanor, the daughter of World War 1 Veteran, the late Joseph Schumaker and Grey Nuns Hospital nurse Helena (Bachman) Schumaker, was born on a farm near Kendall Saskatchewan, on May 8, 1927 and passed away peacefully on May 9, 2023 at Kelowna General Hospital, at the age of 96. Pre-deceased by her husband Doug, sisters Rose (Barney), Betty (Henry) and Phyllis (Fred), brother William (Florence), she is survived by her brother Joseph (Thelma) and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as many close and dear friends.

Eleanor and her family travelled from Saskatchewan by train in 1930, during the Great Depression, to Vernon. The family then boarded the SS Sicamous sternwheeler and made their way to Kelowna where they settled for many years.

Eleanor moved to Victoria at a young age and married the love of her Life, Doug Wilson, October 17, 1953 at the age of 26. She spent many happy years in Victoria operating successful hair salons, most notably for a number of years prior to retirement, at the Empress Hotel, a stop off for late Queen Elizabeth II. She and husband Doug enjoyed a very active and social life in Victoria.

In 1982 Eleanor returned home to the Okanagan following the passing of her husband Doug. Eleanor settled in Lake Country, previously known as Winfield, and later moved into Kelowna. Eleanor travelled extensively in her retirement and enjoyed experiences in many other countries. With great spirit and determination Eleanor maintained an independent lifestyle until her passing.

Eleanor leaves behind many loving memories that will be cherished by all. In respect of Eleanor’s final wishes no service will be held.
