Louise Lindsey, 92, passed away peacefully at Glenmore Lodge with family by her side. Louise was born on September 4, 1932 in Sydney, Nova Scotia. She was predeceased by her husband Joe Lindsey and her beloved son Richard Lindsey.
Louise’s memory will forever be treasured by her daughter, Julie Gordon (Joe), sister Shirley McLean (nephew Brian), four grandchildren (Michael, Melanie, Jack and Peter) and her seven great-grandchildren (Henry, Kate, Coco, Jason, Nora, Nash and Tilly) and also, her dear friend Chris Markgraf.
Louise grew up in Sydney, Nova Scotia the second eldest of 5 children to “Bee” (nee McNeil) and Carl Townsend. She adored her 3 brothers and 1 sister; and she was blessed to have a very kind and caring mother. Her father and brother worked at “Sydney Steel” producing railway rails. Louise’s father, also played drums in a local band. From early youth, she was an avid reader and devoted hockey fan. During WWII, Louise was a volunteer; she knitted socks and put together care packages for the soldiers overseas. Following graduation, Louise did administrative work at London Life in Sydney and then transferred to Toronto where she lived with her Aunt Verne and Uncle Warren. Louise met her future husband, Joe Lindsey in Toronto at a United Church dance. A career with Xerox sent them to Montreal, Calgary and finally Vancouver. Joe opened his own business, “Western Reproducers” and Louise joined him in the later years until they both retired in the 1980s. They resided in West Vancouver for 60 years. Pastimes included swimming, reading and playing the drums in the West Vancouver Band. Louise spent decades of her time volunteering, and serving as president of the North Shore Volunteers. She was a Girl Guide leader and member of the West Vancouver Senior Citizens Centre. Louise also cherished her annual trips “home” to Cape Breton, frequent holidays to Maui and many summers at Seclusion Bay Resort in West Kelowna. She was very proud of her grandchildren and delighted in keeping up with news about her great-grandchildren.
Thank you to all the staff at Glenmore Lodge for their kindness. Special thanks to nurse “Kristy” for her exceptional care and musician “Laurie” for the gift of joy.
Family and friends will gather at the Gordon home to celebrate Louise’s life on Thursday, August 14, 2025. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Louise’s memory to the Canadian Red Cross.
